Week 2 Reading

Week 2 Reading
Chapter 3, 4 and 5
Krug gives key points in what should be in the design of the website.Hierarchy is a key point in your design and how its used as he compares the construction of how the newspaper was formed with the headlines, contents and pictures. With good visual hierarchy it saves time, organizing and prioritizing its contents to grasp almost instantly. Page that doesn't have clear hierarchy makes user work more and slower to process.

Making it clickable is extremely important to the website for if the user can not find where to click then they are working more. The designer may know where to go on the website but does the user know, so keep it simple for the user to notice it.

We as in people don't read instruction until it's to late, we skip it, find it as useless words so beware of instructions for most will be passed over, so cut it down to bare minimum.
Happy talk is like small talk and users don't have time for small talk and want to get right to the beef. Keep the writing short and simple.
All around we design a site that should be simple to give directions on the site and not make users work to process the site.

Week 1 Reading

Week 1 Reading - Intro, Chapter 1 and 2

The reading was very easy to follow and opens your eyes right away. Your able to understand him for he puts it in a simple term that I can imagine it right away, as for I am new in the design field which he writes the book like "gets to the point, straight and simple".

The introduction of the book gives you a clear view of the roles that are played in this field from the clients to the users. This may be a thin book but it has his view of how people use the internet and the designs of the web.

As a Designer your goal is to listen to the clients needs and at the same time understand the users also. Now it's the to build it the right way, which make me think as he wrote in the book on how we really use the internet. I never really looked at web sites as a site that is obvious or one that requires thought to "click". The awareness of the users ability never crossed my mind like that.

So we read less and scan for what catches our eyes, peaks our interest or task on hand. It seems that everything in our lives in one way or another its leads to now, now and now so we scan to cut time down. As a designer we need to catch that scan and build it in our finish product. They do say the internet is the information highway, so the web site that are built are the billboards, so we need to catch the users attention going over 60 miles per hour.

I like the part where he had notice people where putting URL in the Yahoo search box. We need to remember these are our users and think in "their" box sometimes.

MoodBoard Project

MoodBoard Project

Here is the first project for Interface Design that is a MoodBoard. The use of Helvetica text and blending options to create different shapes and looks gives me a new way to look at shapes in many different possibilities. The project was asked to make it about me for I have been in the automotive industry for over 25 years and here I am in a new chapter in my life return to school in a completely new field. I have repaired about anything out there and then began to customizing vehicles to the point it was like creating art with objects that never met to come together as like shapes, figures, images and text when you start using the many different tools within the program.
